Welcome to “Who Is Numeric Citizen” landing page. Welcome to my personal landing page, a place to learn more about me and my creative journey.

🌟

My real name is JF Martin, but I prefer to be called "Numeric Citizen" here on the Internet. Think of Numeric Citizen as my content creator name or my pen name (see why I'm using this name.)

🌟

Am I a content creator? This expression is so often used by bloggers. I prefer to think of myself as a contributor. I avoid the term "content" because it suggests merely filling a space. "Contributor" better reflects my goal of sharing something meaningful and making a small dent in the digital world.

🌟

I have been an IT (Information Technologies) professional since the early nineties (→ Celebrating 30 Years in IT). I'm 57; I'm probably getting old, I know. As an IT pro, I think → I have ten more years left. I’m starting a new job for a big Canadian bank, which could be my last job. I have a few hobbies going from writing, exploring digital tools like digital photography, software and electronic music. Writing and digital photography takes up much of my spare time. I spend about twenty hours a week writing and publishing (which I fully documented here). Why, you might ask? Find out why → “I read, I learn, I write, I share.

🌟

I've always been fascinated and passionate about digital tools like the computer, the smartphone and electronic music. Using software brings those devices to life and is what I enjoy the most. We live in exciting albeit challenging times. I’m an Apple fan since 1982 and owned a lot of Apple gear as documented here (warining, big rabbit hole). I used to be an indie iPhone apps developer between 2009 and 2013. I published my apps under the TinySofty Apps branding. I wasn’t very successful but I maned to make about 5K$!

Please, do explore the other pages on this website to learn more about me because someone said: “We can see who we are through what we create”. Oh and don’t miss my /nope page which was updated on 2025-07-17.

🌟

Because I openly share my complete content contributor toolset here and many of my worklfows there, plus a blog about blogging over here, I consider myself as an open blogger. And my website analytics are open to all, look for them here.

Lastly, I took part of the People & Blog series by Manuel Moreale. Read the written interview here to learn more about me.

This is who I am. On the first image, you’ll find this avatar on all my websites and profile pages. It is an animated GIF created from two images. A digital artist created this avatar from the original image. Sadly, I lost the reference to this artist. He did an wonderful job. On the second image, this is me, circa May, 2025, during a vacation in Italy. Thanks to my wife for trying my Nikon Z f camera!

Please note the following

This website is gradually replacing this one built using Craft. I decided to use a more flexible tool to create a website, as Craft failed to meet my flexibility requirements. This website is a work-in-progress; I expect to complete the project by the end of summer of 2025. Expect the site design to constantly evolve as I’m getting acquainted with Realmac Software Elements features and power.

Artificial intelligence is now part of people’s lives and digital surroundings. I think it is important, in full transparency, to share my rules of conduct regarding my use of Artificial Intelligence, AI. Scroll down to dismiss.

🤖

Never directly use AI responses in a document unless quoted and marked as coming from AI.

As AI is seen as a complementary tool, query results must be reworked, contextualized and used to create new content.

Always add a disclaimer when AI is used and divulge which tools were used.

Something like: Source: ChatGPT via Raycast.

Use AI as a complementary tool to accomplish something not at the center of a specific project.

AI should be considered like another tool in a more extensive toolset, like a Word Processor or a To-do manager. I must not forget about the creative goal and desired end product.

Consider each AI query as non-private; never use private information in queries.

Some AI clients could potentially gather data to help feed future training processes. It’s not a good idea to send queries with personal or sensitive data in them. Anonymize everything if such a thing makes sense when formulating queries.

Never trust AI responses, stay critical and do spot checks.

One of the biggest mistakes when using AI is considering responses as the truth. It would be a recipe for a disaster from a credibility perspective. Trust but check applies here.

Use AI on well-documented and established domains or bodies of knowledge.

Current AI models are trained on knowledge until the fall of 2021. Knowledge credibility takes time and generally comes with more credibility.

Use AI only on topics where I wouldn't mind talking about them in public.

I am not interested in trying controversial requests against ChatGPT or Midjourney.

Use AI only if meaningful added value is expected.

Using AI for the sake of using AI doesn’t bring value. It needs to help add value to the creative process.

Use AI on non-controversial subjects.

AI is about using knowledge, and in scientific communities, consensus is the basis for knowledge validation. Let the dust settle on controversies before making use of still-questionable knowledge.

Use AI to create something I don’t have enough abilities to produce similar results myself.

I am using AI as a complement to my current abilities. Life is short; I cannot learn everything. I need help sometimes.

When using AI for content summarization, If the content is determined of high value, it must be read in full.

When trying shortcuts like summarization, don’t forget the value of doing the real thing.

Keeping the human touch must be a top priority when using AI.

Using too much AI-created content can render the content too generic.

Use AI as a last resort.

It’s too easy to rely on AI all the time. Remember that AI is not an end by itself, it’s a complementary tool, and I already had great human abilities before AI came to be.
